Tooth filling is a dental procedure to restore a damaged caused by tooth decay. By this procedure, you can get back your tooth into normal shape and function. The examining process of filling can only be done by a dentist and decides whether a filling as required or not. If a filling is required, the dentist will first remove the decayed tooth material and fills that cavity with new filling material. Benefit of filling is that you block all the spaces where bacteria can took place and that protects you from further decay. Gold, porcelain, amalgam and composite resin are the materials used in fillings.
Gold fillings are produced in laboratories and then placed into vacant spaces. Gold Fillings are well holed by gum tissue and have a lifespan of around 20 years. For this reason, people feel it’s the best filling but gold filling is an expensive one and needs multiple visits.
This filling is preferred when the patient wants the same color of filling as that of the teeth. The ingredients are directly fixed into the cavity and harden later. But this filling doesn’t last for a long time as it gets stained from coffee, tea or tobacco.
Amalgam fillings are mainly used for back tooth, as they are easily noticeable compared to porcelain or composite filling. Amalgam fillings are noticeable due to its dark color but they do not wear and comparatively inexpensive.
Porcelain fillings is prepared in laboratories and later bonded to the tooth. The filling matches the color of the tooth and doesn’t stain but it’s as expensive as the gold filling.
